Executive Profiles

Brent Wood, President

Brent Wood was named President of The Terminal Railroad on March 18, 2022, and serves as President. Brent first joined TRRA in March of 2017 as CFO, with 40 years of experience in various roles in the coal and power industries, and a four-year period in public accounting. From 1983 to 1986, Mr. Wood practiced in public accounting in St. Louis in the audit group of Conner Ash & Company, PC. From 1986 through 2007, he served in various corporate and division accounting roles for Zeigler Coal Holding Company/Old Ben Coal Company, AEI Resources, and Peabody Energy. From 2007 to 2011, he served as treasurer and corporate controller for Prairie State Generating Company, a $5 billion coal fired power plant and mining facility, where he developed the accounting and finance function for the start-up operation. From 2011 to 2016 Brent served as treasurer and corporate controller for White Oak Resources, a $600M start longwall mining operation in Southern Illinois. He graduated summa cum laude from Southeast Missouri State University in 1983, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, majoring in accounting. He passed the CPA exam in 1983, later earning an MBA in Finance from Webster University in 1995. Mr. Wood is currently a member of the Illinois and Missouri Society of CPA’s, as well as the AICPA.

Chuck Cioffi, Chief Financial Officer

Chuck is the Chief Financial Officer for the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis. He joined TRRA in September 2022. He brings over three decades of business experience in various executive roles as CFO, COO and General Manager in a variety of industries including banking, professional services, e-commerce, business services, distribution, and health care. Chuck has worked in companies at every stage of development from start-ups to mature companies over a century year old and companies that are non-profit, private equity backed, venture capital owned and publicly held. Chuck graduated from St. Louis University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with majors in finance and accounting. He passed the CPA exam in 1987 and held an active CPA license for over 15 years.

Adam Mahlandt, General Manager

Adam is the General Manager for the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis and has been with the company since 1999. He has also held positions as Conductor, Crest Operator, Dispatcher, Yardmaster, and is a licensed Engineer. As a company officer he has held positions as a Trainmaster, Director of Train Operations, Assistant Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent of Dispatching, Director of Crew Management, and Director of Customer Service and Marketing. Adam started his railroad career as a conductor with the BNSF Railway in 1998. He has earned a Bachelor of Science in Business with a concentration in Marketing from the University of Phoenix and holds a Master in Management from Fontbonne University in St. Louis. Adam also served in the United States Army and is an Iraqi Freedom Combat Veteran.

Eric Fields, Chief of Infrastructure Management and Business Development

Eric oversees the infrastructure for the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis. Eric is a professional engineer with experience in bridge management systems and project management for large construction projects. He also leads Terminal Railroad’s business development and has extensive experience with securing grants. Prior to joining Terminal Railroad in 2013, Eric was a Senior Project Manager for the Bi-State Development Agency and managed projects on the Cross County Metrolink Extension through St. Louis County, the Eads Bridge Rehabilitation over the Mississippi River, and maintained 19th century tunnels and structures as part of the Metrolink alignment. Eric has earned a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois, a Master of Business Administration from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville, and a law degree from Saint Louis University. 

Brad Ragland, Director of Labor Relations

Brad is the Director of Labor Relations for the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis and serves as the Designated Employee Representative of the federally mandated Drug and Alcohol program. He has been with the TRRA since 2001 and held positions as Trainmaster, Assistant Superintendent, Director of Logistics, and Transportation Superintendent. Brad started his railroad career in 1990 with the Norfolk Southern Railroad and served as a clerk, control operator, and yardmaster prior to accepting a position as Trainmaster in 1998. Brad holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from Saint Louis University with an emphasis in Leadership and Change Management.

Jessica Kasten, Director Human Resources

Jessica is the Human Resources Manager and Assistant to the President for the Terminal Railroad Association of St. Louis. She has been with TRRA since 2011 and has held various positions in the Clerical Department including General Clerk, Crew Manager/Paymaster Clerk and Accounting/Inventory Clerk. Prior to entering railroad service, she spent 4 years in the Accounting Department for Farmers Insurance in Olathe, Kansas. Jessica has earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration degree with a concentration in Accounting and a Master of Business Administration both from Rockhurst University in Kansas City, Missouri.
